He shares his story of resilience after the Beirut Blast
destroyed their offices and affected their business.
Thanks to a grant from B5 Fund, they were able to renovate
and rebuild.
After the Beirut Blast, Souk el Tayeb was on the verge of
shutting down. However, managing partner Christine Codsi
and her team were determined to not let that happen. They
wanted to continue empowering women from villages and
reviving local food culture.
Despite the destruction caused by the Beirut Blast, they
refused to give up. The B5 Project provided them with the
necessary support to develop and purchase equipment,
enabling them to expand their business.
Meet Hanaa Matar, the owner of Umm Jamil, a vegetable and
fruit shop in Bourj Hammoud. Despite the devastation
caused by the explosion, Hanaa's resilience and
determination to provide for her family never wavered.
Vartan Kasbarian, owner of the Corner Coffee shop in the
Bourj Hammoud area, recalls how the unprecedented
explosion in the port of Beirut, caused “devastation
beyond imagination.”
After the Beirut port explosion on August 4, 2020, Nelly
Semerjian's shop in the Bourj Hammoud neighborhood was
completely damaged. Semerjian describes how shocked she
was to see the facade and all the products destroyed and
scattered on the ground.

B5 Capacity Building and training to
Women-led or Owned
Businesses
We are excited to announce that the B5 fund is launching a bid to hire
a consulting Firm to
provide Capacity Building and training to Women Owned and Led Businesses .
The donors of the LFF Fund met with the beneficiaries of
the B5 Fund. The meeting provided an opportunity to talk
about upcoming projects and how to advance their
businesses in the future.
Rola Halabi, Managing Partner of ImageLifting, visited her
company's headquarters after the Beirut port explosion
devastated her offices in 2020. It should be noted that
her company was very close to the site of the silos.
A delegation from the World Bank and Kafalat Company, met
with B5 grant beneficiaries, to discuss recovery pathways
at Mayrig Restaurant, Mar Mikhael. During the discussion,
participants discussed the Fund's achievements as well as
beneficiaries' thoughts on potential issues and solutions.
The B5 Fund is a $25 million Fund, financed by the
Lebanese Financing facility (LFF), a multi-donor trust fund
established in December 2020, and managed by the World Bank. The
Fund aims to pool grant resources and strengthen the coherence and
coordination of financing in support of the immediate
socio-economic recovery of vulnerable people and businesses
impacted by the Port of Beirut explosion of August 4, 2020.
